Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

In jaunty on acer aspire 5925g with ATI Radeon HD3470 video card and fglrx (proptietary) display driver, suspend-to-disk doesn't resume properly.

It either:
* presents you a xorg screen with only the background showing (no windows, no panels, nothing), no interaction is possible, mouse cursor works (it even change shapes (arrow-hand-I)), no switching to VT is possible, the new unasked undocumented Ctrl-Alt-Backspace, that is Alt-SysRq-K (SysRq is PrintScreen), brings you to a black screen where no further interaction is possible

    or

* it brings you directly to a black screen where no further interaction is possible.

Suspend-to-RAM works like a charm instead.

Please try to install the ssh package and then run the bug repro again so the machine goes into this hung state. While it's hung try to connect to it using ssh. If this is possible please save the output of the "dmesg" command and attach that to the bug report. Thanks.

In my case, after waking ssh clinets can not connect to the machine. It seems that the machine is halted completely.

I've posted a new version of the -fglrx driver to our xorg-edgers PPA,
would you mind testing it either on Jaunty or Karmic and see if it
resolves this bug?

Get fglrx 8.620 here:

I have a Toshiba A505-S6965 that has a ATI Radeon HD 4570.

I have the same problem. When I suspend, it comes up with the background, but never gets any further. I have successfully ssh'd into the box and have the dmesg, kern, pm-suspend logs attached.

Perhaps the "money line" is:
Aug 9 17:48:27 toshiba-laptop kernel: [74570.312008] [fglrx] ASIC hang happened

I booted the live cd and it suspended fine with the radeon driver. I tried to remove the restricted driver but it was unsuccessful and I ended up having to do a complete reinstall. Now I'm using the 2D Radeon driver and can suspend (this is mission critical for me in the way I use my laptop) but I sure would like the ability to use the 3D features of the card.

I also tried the https://edge.launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa and the updated driver for fglrx didn't help it.

I hope that this thread doesn't close since this remains an unfixed problem.

Are there any settings that might be helpful?

Thanks,
Narnie
