Bug Description

Application: Firefox 3.08.

Environment used for testing: Ubuntu 8.04 running on Sony TZ laptop as well as UNR running on Payson project laptops.

Summary: With a large set of bookmarks (~ 2,000+), when going to Bookmarks, Organize bookmarks, all open Firefox windows become frozen for several minutes. This doesn't happen with relatively small set of bookmarks.

Steps to Reproduce: Import a large (~2000+) set of bookmarks into the Firefox, then go to Bookmarks, Organize bookmarks.

Expected result: No visible delay should be observed.

Actual result: Long, very uncomfortable delay, causing freezing all open Firefox windows, requiring sometimes to close Firefox to get out of the situation.

Still a problem in Ubuntu 9 as of 2009/07/20 !!
- I have 34 MB of bookmarks which takes 1+ hours to load from an html file on a top of the line Desktop.
- At this size, the bookmarks cannot be dragged around to be organized.
- Every attempted bookmark drag freezes all firefox components for several minutes.
- While frozen, desktop graphics get smeared around the screen when moved.

Please could you try to reproduce this behaviour in firefox 3.5 (which is the default browser in the current dev release of ubuntu). There is a handy guide on how to install firefox 3.5 in ubuntu9.04 here: http://www.blogsdna.com/3824/how-to-download-install-firefox-35-on-ubuntu-904-linux.htm
