Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

Using up-to-date Jaunty kubuntu and an ATI video card, I tried to activate desktop effects. After that on my screen I saw the grey version of the default kubuntu wallpaper.

I went through several reboot and session logins, seeing each time the splash screen blinking, then this grey wallpaper with my mouse cursor responding, earing the login sound but nothing else expect sometimes a partial view of my desktop (only the task bar for example, and only about one second).

After one of these reboots, it booted quite normaly, the splash screen blinking some times but my session starting. Seeing that the effects were on (transparency activated, windows' opening effects) I tried to activate the wobbly windows... and started once again this reboot process.

I tried to reconfigure Xorg... failure: after reboot my screen displayed some ugly melting pot of rays of background and black.

Then after booting kubuntu under failsafe mode (using grub), I changed back to my old xorg.conf, rebooted once or twice, and now having the wobbly windows activated (for how many times?).

Then the error reported here occured.
