Unable to create VPN connections in network-manager

network-manager-openvpn and network-manager-pptp are both installed.

click on the network tool (bars for me since it's wireless), click on "VPN Connections", click on "Configure VPN". "Add", "Edit", "Delete", "Import", "Export" are all grayed out.

I think the ‘Add’ button is greyed out in default installation of Intrepid. I am not sure if network-manager-openvpn and network-manager-pptp are installed in the default installation, but they should be. See also https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/vpn-by-default

Is the fix for Jaunty going to be backported to Hardy? I am using the Dell Mini repository and would love for this to be fixed for the Hardy LTS.

I wonder why this stopped working with Hardy; I recall Feisty had no problems with this. Do we know why the ‘Add’ option is greyed-out at all?

For all i can tell vpn 'add/apply' is usable in network-manager-pptd and vpn connections work.
but add/apply is still inactive for OpneVPN's

I think jandom means network-manager-pptp. But there is Bug 362825 network-manager-pptp conflicts with network-manager, which makes this workaround fail for Hardy (Dell Mini). I learnt this the hard way by installing network-manager-pptp and then everything with the network failed. I had to hand-download and hand-install network-manager and the related packages back.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release the Karmic Koala. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. I have a similar problem.

Enter VPN configuration in network manager
Add VPN pptp connection.
Able to enter details
Return to EDIT connection in VPN tab of Network Manager
Result: pptp VPN Connection tab no longer exists. Only Ipv4 setting show. (see attachment)
Result: unable to use VPN using GNOME network manager.

However, I am able to connect to pptp VPN using kvpc
