Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-notifier

I upgraded to jaunty today, rebooted, opened a terminal and ran a shell script to download any available updates (but not install them). The script is this one-liner:

  sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get up grade -d -u -y && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -d -u -y --force-yes

After that I noticed a "upgrade needed" window in my window list, claiming that I need to reboot (again?) to finish the upgrade.

Actually, I ran a sudo apt-get remove linux-image-2.4.27-14-server --auto-remove to get rid of my old kernel, *after* I ran that one-liner. Since it's 3 am now, I cannot say whether the update notifier notification showed up before or after I did that apt-get remove. It should not be displayed in either case: I did not touch my running kernel, and I did not upgrade any system packages.

Actually, I did try sudo apt-get remove linux-image-2.4.28-11-server (my current kernel) too, just to see whether that would remove ubuntu-xen-desktop or not (it wanted to), but I said "no" at the apt prompt.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386

 PATH=(custom, user)

 SHELL=/bin/bash
SourcePackage: update-notifier
Uname: Linux 2.6.28-11-server i686

Thanks for your bugreport.

I'm pretty certain that this was caused by the old kernel image. The new kernels do not show this behavior, if you can reproduce this problem again, please let me know how.
