Rhythmbox keeps playing removed track

Bug Description

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I added some tracks to Rhythmbox, and played the first track. These are FLAC, in case that matters. I then removed all the tracks, but the music kept playing. Clicking play repeatedly did nothing.

I'm on Ubuntu 8.10, with all the latest updates. Rhythmbox is version 0.11.6.

Just tried an Ogg Vorbis file and an MP3 file. The same thing happens (the song keeps playing even though it was removed from the playlist, and pausing does nothing.)

Yes, this is reproducible, at least on my machine.

1. Launch Rhythmbox.
2. Add any track(s) in any format that Rhythmbox can play (FLAC, MP3, Ogg Vorbis...)
3. Play a track.
4. Select the track being played (or you can even select all tracks)
5. Right click and remove

You will notice that the music still plays, and clicking the play button does not pause the music. However, I don't really notice any permanent effects from this bug.

Hope this helps!

why do you think it should stop the action only because you change the playlist there?

Whoops, sorry. I completely used the wrong word. Change all instances of "playlist" to "library" and everything should make more sense! Thanks for catching my mistake.

Okay, I figure I should rewrite everything from the beginning. We're not talking about playlists here.

1. Open Rhythmbox. In my case, it's a fresh-from-the-repos copy of Rhythmbox. I'm on Ubuntu 8.10.
2. Add music to the library. I've tested this bug with FLAC, MP3, and Ogg Vorbis files.
3. Play music from the library.
4. While the track is still playing, remove all your music from the library (select all, right-click, remove.)

On my system, music continues to play even after I have removed the music from the library. This probably shouldn't be the default behavior.

it's not obvious to me that clearly the library should stop the song being played too

Well, the song is GONE from Rhythmbox. It doesn't make sense to me to keep playing a song that Rhythmbox no longer is keeping track of. Besides, clicking Play does nothing to stop the song. The only way to stop the song is to either quit Rhythmbox OR wait for the song to finish. At least that has to be a bug.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Could you try the same with Karmic ? Thanks in advance.
