Bug Description

Under Breezy the usb device scx4100 MFP printed and scanned with the oem drivers. Early Dapper was able to print but not scan. Recent updates have borked the print function. It seems that no user gymnastics with permissions et al seem to work. My other system under Breezy used to recognize my ml-4500 on the parallel port but under Dapper it does not although I can manually configure it an it will print.

Hi,

Thank you for reporting this bug. Is this still an issue with the latest Dapper packages installed? There was another bug with a parallel port issue that some recent updates seem to have fixed.

I would like to confirm this bug. There are instructions/work arounds in the ubuntu forums that help. Although scanning is a pain as a 'sym link' needs to be created each time.

Given that linux drivers exist natively for this printer off the samsung website (SCX-4100), is it possible for ubuntu to support this natively? As other users have reported, OEM drivers should 'just work' upon install.

I am in individual contact with others who have this printer, and some have posted work arounds on their websites/blogs.

This is bug #29050, a workaround is to add "ppdev" to /etc/modules and reboot. This issue has been fixed in feisty.
