This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try
with the latest Karmic 9.10 release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are
available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If the issue remains, could you run the following command from a
Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal) while running Karmic. It
will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this
report.

apport-collect -p linux 355200

Thanks in advance

Can confirm this happening on Karmic, too (Toshiba Tecra r10-14c). I have attached related dmesg log and xorg log files.

Interesting things to note:
1) This was happening for me under Jaunty from the clean installation. But, from one unspecified (I'm sorry I hadn't caught that) kernel update, suspending started working. It kept like that for few updates and, again, it stopped working. Don't remember the particular kernel update, but I think it was related to updates for toshiba computers.
2) Other thing which is possibly related to this defect is that after loging into xserver session I can not switch to other tty. After pressing ctrl+alt+1 the screen goes off, fortunately I can switch back to tty7.
3) Last, this is tightly related to both of previous points. When I boot the laptop with external screen attached, the supspend works. From start, it displayes all the boot info on the external screen until the x login where it goes back to laptop screen. With this, I can switch to other ttys which are displayed on the external screen. Important thing is that I have to boot with the monitor attached, does not work when it's been attached while running. (this last point tested on latest Karmic updates only, don't know whether it worked or not before)

Suspend is working now.
However, not very convenient handling of screens remains.

Current configuration:

nvidia driver from http://ppa.launchpad.net/nvidia-vdpau/ppa/ubuntu repository:
195.36.03-0ubuntu1~karmic~nvidiavdpauppa2

kernel:
$ uname -a
Linux ipnp-n45 2.6.31-20-generic #57-Ubuntu SMP Mon Feb 8 09:02:26 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I didn't have much time to figure out which update made the difference. I may do it later, if anyone is interested.
