Having the same problem, it's seemingly random which apps suffer from this.

I don't really think it's a theme issue, since it is just a definition file and I don't see how a theme could screw this up in a such a non-reproducable way (I've never seen it on my computer). I've also heard from someone that it worked fine for him again after creating a new user, so it might be caused by certain configurations.

This is not a bug theme, I have realized this, because I have try many others themes and it also happens.
Obviously, when the theme has not round corners, seems that there is not any problem, but the right is that many themes (perhaps all) don't fill the titlebar and they leave some pixels in the right and left, when the window is as big as a maximized window.
Perhaps this is a clearlooks engine problem or a metacity problem but I don't know too much about it.
Can anyone move this bug to a correct package?
Is possible to move a bug to another package in launchpad?

You can click on the task line from the table displayed after the title. With what themes do you have that issue? That seems to happen when the app is started with dimensions near of the maximized ones but not maximized

Probably a window manager issue

It happens for most of my themes (Some of theme don't change too much when they are maximized, and I can't know if it is happening).
- Clearlooks
- Ubuntu
- Atlanta
- Bright
(I think all of them but in some of them is difficult to see it).

I have see something more:
- the windows is as big as desktop
- maximize the window
- the title bar ant its contents (buttons) don't change to show the new maximized state
- if you move the mouse over the buttons, they change to show the maximized state but some themes doesn't change the title bar completely, like human theme. It only change the buttons but rounded corners don't change.

This is indeed key - if the window isn't pseudo-maximized (as big as the
screen) before clicking the maximize button, this does not occur.

Daniel, maybe now you can reproduce it on your system too - but I really
think this is a metacity bug.
