Bug Description

Jaunty i386 - up-to-date as of Sat. 4th April.
Dell Inspiron 1525 with an Intel GM965 chipset with an X1300
graphics card. The 'low' %CPU 7 to a 'high' %CPU 13, is with Desktop effects enabled (just the
default ones) and with the Desktop effects turned off, Xorg gives a 'low' of %CPU 2 and a 'high'
of %CPU 6 .

I'm sure that with desktop effects turned off Xorg's CPU usage should really be near zero.

Hi nigel-rmk,

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log (and maybe Xorg.0.log.old) file from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

A cpu load of %13 doesn't sound abnormally high. I'm not convinced this is actually a bug, without some better evidence.

I have turned Desktop Effects off and am still seeing relatively high Xorg CPU usage - between
%CPU 3 - %CPU 10. On average (watching 'top' for about 5 minutes) it moves around the %CPU 5-9 mark.

On my wife's Dell Vostro laptop (a very similar system to my Inspiron) running Hardy, her Xorg
via 'top' shows an average of %CPU 1. So there must be something amiss.
Should I open a separate bug report (without reference to Desktop Effects)?

Blessings,

Nigel
