Bug Description

I own a Sony Vaio VGN-TX2XP and want to notice developpers that everything work on the laptop with Ubuntu Dapper Flash 5 live cd, as described in the "short" testing of the wiki, except for one thing. (battery management, sound, wifi, internet, internet radio listening, OOo english dictionary, etc... are ok)

My bug (if it is a bug) :
X and Gnome work well, but since the screen resolution of the laptop is 1366x768, I would like to set it, but don't find where to do it. Maybe the GUI are not configured to allow to configure without command line.......

It's the only thing I'm waiting for now to install Ubuntu Linux on this laptop, so...

For information, Ubuntu Breezy Live CD simply don't work on this laptop, loading stops at display configuration.

If it is not a bug, sorry to disturb the great work of the developpers.

NB : very hard to understand where end users like me who want to help with testing can tell developpers if it works or not....

Note: the original reporter indicated the bug was in package 'xfree86'; however, that package was not published in Ubuntu.

The best way to help is to join the LaptopTesting Team and file bug reports of things that don't work (like you did here; thanks):

Thanks for your bug. Can you indicate the graphics chipset being used in this particular model as well as attaching xorg.conf (found at /etc/X11/xorg.conf) and Xorg.0.log (/var/log/Xorg.0.log)? These would be useful to determine what is wrong with the autoconfiguration of your xserver.

thanks again,

Jerome

Jerome,

The graphic chipset of the Sony Vaio VGN-TX2XP notebook is a "Mobil
Intel 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Chipset Family" as found in the Windows
configuration Panel.

For information, configuration must be 1366x768 at 60Hz.

Thanks for answer, and if I can help with testing, it's OK, I'll do it.

915 has a fair share of issues for Dapper. Marking this as dupilcate of Bug 32760
