I don't know exactly when/why, but I notice the main window's scrollbar jumping up and down all the time when I enter a lot of tasks with subtasks in a frenzy

It is possible to see a jump if the scrollbar is not in the uppest psoition and you enter the first character of a new subtask.

I cannot reproduce this issue anymore. It looks like it was fixed by bertrand's refactoring.

If you can reproduce this issue in the latest trunk, please reopen this bug and add the steps to reproduce. Thanks.

Yep, it should be fixed: since we're using GtkTreeModel methods to
update it, we shouldn't see anymore those transient glitches.
