Won't load X

Bug Description

Dell 9100
Dual Core
2005 FPW

dapper-live-i386 flight5

The new loader appears with UBUNTU graphic with 4 choices under and function keys across the bottom.

Leaving the VGA mode alone results in a "2- can't display DVI-M(?) mode" notice.

Changing to a specific resolution by using the F4 key and selecting 640x...... anything results in a new graphic and series of "loading ..." messages. all of which pass EXCEPT FOR THE LAST ONE which flashes "failed" so fast, I can't read the module being loaded.

I get informed about a problem with X. asked if I want a detailed log and brought to a text prompt.

typing startx tells me X can't be loaded, some comments about a conf file, but no direction I could follow to correct the problem.

Sorry for the not-perfect description of the messages, but I only tried a few times, because the ubuntu boot also loses my USB WiFi, too. I need to completely power down for a few minutes before booting in XP will even find the device (my only net connection) again. I'm afraid to completely lose it.

I guess that may be another bug...

Not a complete newbie, but not a lifer, either.

Does it still happen on the final Cd release of 6.06? If so, please attach Xorg.0.log and xorg.conf.

thanks,
