Bug Description
Binary package hint: gstreamer0.8-theora
I've created an avifile using ffmpeg using the following command with ffmpeg (replace $VOBFILE with your video):
ffmpeg -i $VOBFILE -croptop 80 -cropbottom 80 -vcodec libtheora -me_method full -an -sameq -b 1024k video.avi
this video has the FOURCC code "THEO". It plays back in mplayer just fine and is, as far as I know, correct.
Ubuntu, however, describes it as x-decoder-unknown, and thus cannot find a decoder for it.
I have also created an mkv file out of it using the following command:
mkvmerge -o "video.mkv" --title "video" --chapters chapters video.avi --language 0:eng --sync 0:1080 sound1.ogg --language 0:dut --sync 0:13904 sound2.ogg --language 0:eng subs-eng.idx --language 0:dut subs-dut.idx
This has the same problem. It does play the audio though and it recognises the title.
I think totem should recognise those files and play them back properly.
Official support for Ubuntu 8.10 "Intrepid Ibex" and Ubuntu 9.04 "Jaunty Jackalope" has ended. If this problem is still occurring on Ubuntu 13.04 "Raring Ringtail" please file a new bug report so that we can get a fresh set of system logs and system info.
