Bug Description

This is not a distribution specific bug... in fact, it probably hardly qualifies as a bug, and should be put on low priority.

However:

Splash screens (i.e. on ubuntu) are stretched on widescreen monitors. For example, my laptop's 1280x800, or my desktop's 1680x1050. These native resolutions are becoming mainstream, and more and more computers are using them.

Would it be possible to have the usplash utility autodetect the native resolution of the monitor and add white (or rather, black!) space as needed?

This would mean we wouldn't need custom bootscreens for each resolution.
