Hi,

Thanks for your bug report. To help work out where the problem lies some information about your system is needed. We need to know:
The version of Ubuntu you are using.
The version of Firefox you are using.

Also it would be great if you provide the series of steps you follow to cause Firefox to close.

Hi Elliot,

here are some informations about my system:
Ubuntu 7.10 (gutsy)
Firefox 2.0.0.22pre

so, when i try to open some homepage and when i go to Edit-->
Preferences under firefox and then to click to generals properties, i
have a crash and firefox is closed.

Did you try to run firefox in safe mode see following command:
firefox --safe-mode
Does it happen than?
I have seen this bug using extensions it is not reproducable on my system without extenions in 3.0 3.5 and 3.6

Changed source package to just Firefox as version 2 is affected.

Firefox 2.0 is not supported any more and hasnt been for a while by us nor upstream, so it will never see a fix for this

Please use apport to file bug reports as that will give us most info that we need to determine what caused the crash.
Closing this bug. I also never say anyone mention this is reproducible in 3.0.8. Please report all crash reports using apport.
