Bug Description

After updating to xserver-xorg-video-intel, UXA crashed my xserver, and EXA would just give me a mouse cursor on a blank screen.. I'm looking through my logs to find the cause of this.

Apparently, the xorg log file is from the VESA-mode server I started after not being able to boot. I'll attach the xorg.log of a UXA server and a EXA server ;)

Here's the UXA log..

The EXA log didn't show any error or warning messages that were specific to this crash.
I suspect the error would come from the X-driver making a kernel call, but the kernel not reacting (or something likewise).

Got it working by compiling a 2.6.29 stable kernel.. Apparently the driver in PPA uses kernel calls only accessible in 2.6.29..

I'm using http://people.ubuntu.com/~bryce/Testing/intel-bug359600/ with UXA and is much better here.

Interesting, I am taken to believe the changes in this version only take
effect when using EXA.

I spoke with upstream about this bug; Eric Anholt believes this bug occurs only in this particular version of git snapshot, and is fixed in a newer snapshot.

As a general rule, we don't track bugs unique to the xorg-edgers PPA in launchpad, but I'll note that a newer snapshot is now available in xorg-edgers so this issue is no longer a concern.
