Bug Description
Binary package hint: xserver-
Leaving fullscreen applications (firefox, screensaver, videos, youtube, etc) only shows wallpaper with nothing else. It's NOT locked (mouse moves)!
It happens at least once a day.
The most common example: When I move the mouse to leave screensaver, i see my wallpaper and my mouse cursor moving, but nothing else appears!
Even if I don't really leave fullscreen mode (for example, by just pressing ALT-TAB during a fullscreen video to change to another window) also causes the problem.
It's NOT completely locked (the mouse cursor moves).
It's not a Kernel Panic (caps lock does NOT blink/flash). I have installed a package that, whenever I have a Kernel Panic, it reports it to launchpad. But it is NOT reporting anything because it is NOT a kernel panic.
The screensaver "Blank Screen" is better than the 3D ones, but even using blank screen, i get this problem about once a day.
I tried the following things, but nothing worked:
- acpi=off, acpi=noirq, pci=noacpi
- changing my wireless to 802.11 b (ipw 4965 bug: see intrepid release notes)
- changing compiz to it's default values
- ctrl-alt-backspace doesn't work
- ctrl-alt-F1 doesn't work
- Alt-SysRq-B doesn't work
- AltGr-SysRq-B doesn't work
- Updating Ubuntu 8.10 doesn't work (i have all updates installed)
When this problem happens, the only solution is to SSH using another computer and reboot.
My Video Card (lspci | grep VGA):
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0c)
I'm using Ubuntu Intrepid 8.10, with Compiz in Gnome, with default options.
Thanks,
Thiago.
