I tried recreating this using hplip version 3.9.2-3ubuntu3 on the Jackalope and was unsuccessful. You mention that you received a crash report - apport should have presented you with a dialog to file that crash report. Where is that bug report? It should contain detailed information about the crash.

Apport didn't give me a crash report. I ran this in Konsole.

I searched a little further. Looks like I can't run hp-toolbox either. This gives a little more information.

Can someone who has more experience with Launchpad clean this bug report? It looks like my changes were not correct:

hp-toolbox had another problem. It was fixed by purging and reinstalling python-qt4-dbus.
hp-info still gives a segmentation fault.

So, the link with the Debian bug tracker should be removed. The bug is valid, but it is another issue and the report should be restored in its original state. (only hp-info crash)
