Bug Description

Hey guys,
Just installed Jaunty, and noticed that if I place an svg or png image on the desktop it doesnt show up until I open Nautilus and then the Desktop folder.
Although all image previews (thumbnails) show up in nautilus they dont seem to be written to the Desktop .
The svg image has the "dafault" icon but no image preview and png has nothing , again until I open Nautilus/Desktop.
I have not been able to find anyone with the same issue however this is a clean install, which at this point doesn mean too much :)

I am having this same issue, after installing Ubuntu Karmic.

Nautilus' image preview is working normally if you browse a folder through a normal Nautilus browser window. However, if you download any images to the desktop, or copy them there - the translucent "image loading" icon will replace the icon, but the preview will never appear.

The only way to get Nautilus to render previews of desktop images correctly, is to run "killall nautilus && nautilus" to restart it.

I'm not sure what other information is necessary to report this, but restarting Nautilus is often enough for the previews to be rendered correctly for the session. They will, however, be broken once again upon restart.

I experience this on my (amd64) desktop with Compiz enabled, but have never experienced it on my netbook (i386) without Compiz enabled.

I have something similar.

I have no desktop icons at all, even not when starting Nautilus by going to the Home folder via the Places menu.

But when starting Nautilus via the terminal, all of a sudden destop icons appear on my screen.

I'm running 9.04 on my netbook, but did never have problems with 9.04 on my desktop.

It would be good to know if this is still a problem in karmic installs.

Please feel free to reopen the bug report if you can still verify its existence in a recent Ubuntu release and are able to provide more information.
