Bug Description

Unable to connect to my 3G service after upgrading to Kubuntu Jaunty. I have ensured that all prior settings in knetworkmanager were ported over correctly to the NM plasmoid's configuration.

The error message I'm getting in /var/log/daemon.log is as such:

-----------
Apr 1 14:47:27 ladyjaye NetworkManager: <WARN> wait_for_connection_expired(): Connection (2) /org/freedesktop/NetworkManagerSettings/1 failed to activate (timeout): (0) Connection was not provided by any settings service
-----------

Basically, I doubt that pppd was even invoked. Typically, I would see some logs in /var/log/messages indicating so but not in this case.

Hardware used is a Huawei E220 and it had worked (somewhat) reliably in Intrepid. The device was also detected correctly when I plug it in and I can see the device appearing under the Mobile Broadband section.

I can see the following logs when I plug in the modem:

-----------
Apr 1 13:49:01 ladyjaye NetworkManager: <info> (ttyUSB0): found serial port (udev:GSM hal:GSM)
Apr 1 13:49:01 ladyjaye NetworkManager: <info> (ttyUSB0): new Modem device (driver: 'option')

Apr 1 13:49:06 ladyjaye NetworkManager: <info> (ttyUSB0): device state change: 1 -> 2
Apr 1 13:49:06 ladyjaye NetworkManager: <info> (ttyUSB0): deactivating device (reason: 2).
Apr 1 13:49:06 ladyjaye NetworkManager: nm_system_device_flush_ip4_routes_with_iface: assertion `iface_idx >= 0' failed
Apr 1 13:49:06 ladyjaye NetworkManager: nm_system_device_flush_ip4_addresses_with_iface: assertion `iface_idx >= 0' failed
Apr 1 13:49:06 ladyjaye NetworkManager: <info> (ttyUSB0): device state change: 2 -> 3
Apr 1 13:49:06 ladyjaye console-kit-daemon[2411]: WARNING: Couldn't read /proc/2410/environ: Failed to open file '/proc/2410/environ': No such file or directory
-----------

I understand that there's another bug filed for the NM plasmoid but that's pertaining to Enterprise WiFi APs. I think these are 2 separate issues so I filed a separate bug.

Please let me know if there's any other information I can provide.

Thanks,
Wong

I've got a similar problem. Used to work in Intrepid.

I get the problem using nm-applet (Gnome, not KDE) so it might not be an applet bug.

The device still works with wvdial, so the kernel driver is working.

Hardware: Huawei E630.
Network: Vodacom (South Africa)

It looks like pppd was never involved.
