Bug Description

gnome-display-properties doesn't list resolutions larger than 1280x1024 and I cannot set proper resolution (1920x1200) for my external monitor.

With intrepid I had found a workaround http://orvils.blogspot.com/2009/03/ubuntu-un-lielie-monitori.html but that doesn't work anymore

the following command works and adds new mode to the xrandr listings, but I cannot activate it
xrandr --newmode "1680x1050_60.00" 147.14 1680 1784 1968 2256 1050 1051 1054 1087 -HSync +Vsync

Here is the output when I try to activate my new mode. (worked before)
$ xrandr --output VGA --mode 1680x1050_60.00
xrandr: cannot find mode 1680x1050_60.00

ubuntu-bug -p xrandr
this tells that xrandr doesn't exist

Thank you for reporting this bug. Can you please add the line
  Option "ModeDebug" "true"
to the "Device" section in /etc/X11/xorg.conf log out and in again and attach:
- /var/log/Xorg.0.log (the above option gives it more modesetting information)
- /etc/X11/xorg.conf
- the full output of `lspci -vvnn` (as a separate file)
- the full output of `xrandr --verbose` (as a separate file)
