Bug Description

Binary package hint: fast-user-switch-applet

The new logout-restart-shutdown dialogs in Jaunty aren't modal windows. IMHO, this is a lack of consistent, because all the previous dialogs from previous Ubuntu releases were modal dialogs.

Another lack of consistence is about the window decorators. The actual dialogs has decorators (title bar, etc.) unlike the dialogs in the previous Ubuntu releases.

I propose to convert the dialogs into modal ones and remove the window decorators.

Another issue is that the current dialogs can be placed behind to the other windows. I propose to have the dialogs always at the front, like the dialog that appears when you press the computer's Power button.

The new dialogs are too similar to any other window. The old ones looked more important (which they are), and demanded your attention.

Actually, that's not true. If it is, you've found a bug.

They can. By unmarking "always on top", that is. Not easy to do unintentionally, but still.

What was the rationale behind the change, may I ask? I was about to file this as a bug, I found the dialogue much prettier and safer before. And it went with the gksu dialogue, too.

Also, the icon on the titlebar could look better... that's certainly NOT the last thing I want to see before turning my PC off. Is that still going to be polished or something?

Also, the 60 second timer is next to pointless. Why would I invoke the dialogue and not make a selection?

I kind of agree with the timer actually. I could see my mom try to set her IM status to "invisible" and accidentally press "log out". It's good to have a second change your mind if that happens to you.

Can I change it from 60 second to something reasonable...like 5-10 seconds.

i personally think having the title bar makes the window look better.

and having the timer is good, because since we no longer have giant icons to click like in hardy, but rather a quite small menu where it is easy to misclick, having the timer has already saved me from shutting down when i wanted to do X, since i had time to click cancel.

Leave the 60 seconds in, or shorten it a bit, but if we are going to be shutting down from that fast user switch menu, we NEED a timer.

was there a report before that the previous applet designs in previous ubuntu releases , were annoying or was often mistakenly clicked, hence the timer?

also, as previously asked, what is the reason of the change to standard modal dialogue when previous dialogues were fine?

If the time stays, it needs to be configurable.

Personally, the modal dialogs felt much more fitting in the grand scheme of things.

yep, the previous modals even the trans-lucid one (with timer) was more fitting.
the thing with this standard modal, is that it has minimize button. making it pointless, since, its gonna restore back when you click it.

Anybody are agree with the main matter of this bugreport? If so, can he/she confirm it? Thanks.

It might be a moot point already, because you can just remove the confirmation dialogue. as stated here.
