font rendering poor

Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Some fonts render poorly in web pages. One example is Franklin Gothic. It looks as though the font renderer is not using the bytecode interpreter for hinting, despite the fact that my system's fontconfig-config is configured to use method "native", and if I look at a page that uses Franklin Gothic, such as http://www.the-guidepost.com/browse_the_library/index.html in Konqueror, the font is rendered correctly, as it is in gnome-font-viewer. Firefox is the only application that seems to have this problem.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386

 SHELL=/bin/bash
 PATH=(custom, user)
 LANG=en_GB.UTF-8
SourcePackage: firefox-3.0
Uname: Linux 2.6.28-11-generic i686

I just tried Firefox 3.1b3, and this does not have the problem.
