Bug Description

On Jaunty beta I have no sound in wine. It was working fine until about a week ago and an update broke it. In winecfg I have Audio Test Failed when clicking test sound. I have tried ALSA, OSS, Esound but they are all the same.

Versions:

wine 1.0.1-0ubuntu5
2.6.28-11-generic #38-Ubuntu SMP Fri Mar 27 10:01:17 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Let me know if you need any more info.

I can confirm this.

Here is my configuration:

I have Ubuntu Studio Jaunty, installed it today 28-Mar-2009 from today's daily build.
Wine does not work with pulseaudio, so after installation I purged it and re-booted.

asoundconf list showed both my sound cards
Intel
Generic (this is the one I want to use)

asoundconf set-default-card Generic

I opened Audacity. Audacity only recognized the Intel card.

I opened wine.
Wine shows the following in winecfg:

alsa-driver
MIDI Out Devices: Midi Through Port-0
MIDI In Devices: Midi Through Port-0
Mixer Devices:
     HDA Intel
     HDA-Audio Generic

Ordinarily, MIDI Out/In shows Generic.
But it doesn't recognize either card.

My earlier post was not clear. I have no sound anywhere, with any card. Not on audacity, not on YouTube, not with either of my sound cards. Not in playing or recording modes.

Does purging pulseaudio now remove all sound capability?

Never mind. My sound problem was caused by Ubuntu studio, where sound only works with the rt kernel and I had installed the generic kernel in the automatic updates.

Hmm, from Susan's comment this doesn't quite sound like a Wine bug but rather a general sound problem. If you are still having sound problems in Jaunty final, perhaps we can diagnose the specific update that broke things for you. Thank you for reporting!

Changed in wine (Ubuntu):
status: New → Invalid

I can confirm that this is an Ubuntu problem, and this bug is invalid.
I am now onto Karmic. Sound works for me using OSS but not alsa, where I have either no sound or broken sound, depending on pulseaudio config. There is a Ubuntu bug for this.

They have also removed asoundconf from alsa-utils, which is very annoying.
