Could you repost the /var/log/dist-upgrade/ content? It apparently got truncated to 40bytes...

newaliases: fatal: file /etc/postfix/main.cf: parameter setgid_group: group postdrop has same group ID as winbindd_priv

Do you have any idea how these two groups might have goten the same group ID?

I have no idea. I am sure that I never created any group manually on this computer. As far as I remember I did a fresh install on Ubuntu 8.10 and upgraded to 9.04. Thanks a lot to care for this problem.

sounds strange. You don't happen to (also) use an external source such as NIS och LDAP for your user information? Can you give me the output of these two commands?

$ getent group | egrep "postdrop|winbindd_priv"
and
$ ls -la /etc/postfix/

Please excuse the late response.

 * I don't use LDAP (as far as I know)
 * I use NFS + NIS (client)

As far as I see everything works fine after the upgrade. As I use evolution for emails postfix is probably not used on my client computer. Seems that /etc/postfix has not been created.

$ getent group | egrep "postdrop|winbindd_priv"
winbindd_priv:x:124:
postdrop:x:124:

$ ls -la /etc/postfix/
ls: Zugriff auf /etc/postfix/ nicht möglich: No such file or directory

$ sudo ls -la /etc/postfix/
[sudo] password for vb:
ls: Zugriff auf /etc/postfix/ nicht möglich: No such file or directory

Yes, now I believe I know where the problem originates. If you resolve your gid conflict between your local /etc/group and your yp group map I'm pretty sure postfix will install just fine.

I finally found some time to proof your assumption. Thanks a lot for the help!

@valle: Glad to hear you got postfix installed properly.

Marking this bug as Invalid. I don't think we can blame Postfix for being confused by gid conflicts :)
