It definitely happens for me all the time; not sure what situation created it though... Pop up first appears when deskbar-applet loads, and then continues to re-appear every 5-10 minutes unless i leave it open. couldn't find the string "url-handlers" anywhere in my .gconf dir, not sure where else to look?

running:
$ gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /desktop/gnome/url-handlers

seems to have fixed it, then just need to re-set preferred applications if not default.

should have grabbed contents of .gconf/desktop/gnome/url-handlers first though, not sure what broke it!

enabling the "Web History (Epiphany)" deskbar extension appears to trigger this error immediately.

Noticed on my system as well. I'm attaching the output of

gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/url-handlers

raising importance as it is a very visible and annoying problem.

TBH, it seems rather important to me, but that might be because it happened the whole last week for me ;-)

The error would be linked to a GTK+ bug for the LinkButton object.

Check if this workaround for tasque is applicable here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tasque/+bug/337849/comments/10

I got this error after using VMWare Player.

Removed ~/recently-used.xbel and this fixed the problem....
