Icons and menus vanish in OO2.0.2 under Gnome

Bug Description

When OpenOffice runs under Gnome on Dapper Flight 5, moving the mouse over the menu bar and the toolbars cause display components to vanish.

Clicking on a menu bar item causes all others to vanish. Moving over an opened menu causes its entries to vanish. Pointing at an icon in a toolbar causes all other icons in that toolbar to vanish.

OpenOffice works perfectly under KDE.

System: Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop with 1GByte RAM, NVidia GeForce FX5650 graphics.

Note: the original reporter indicated the bug was in package 'openoffice'; however, that package was not published in Ubuntu.

I have the same problem in Dapper Flight 5 except it happens under both KDE and GNOME. It makes OpenOffice unusable.

Update - installing openoffice.org-kde solves the problem.

I have the same problem on a Dapper system running on a thinkpad t42p with ati proprietary drivers. I have already installed and reconfigured openoffice.org, openoffice.org-gnome e -kde. Tried purging openoffice and reinstalling it. Even tried to remove .openoffice in my home. Still the same problem. Under Xgl with compiz the situation doesn't minimally change.

I have the same problem on a system updated today.

Happens in all OO modules in gnome - KDE is fine.

Smae problem on my system flight 6. Gnome appear for split second at start up then appear only when my mouse is over the blank space where they should be. However works normally in KDE. I use nvidia 6600gt graphics card with nvidia-glx drivers installed and amd k7 kernel for my athlon 64. Nforce 4 chipset.

Reinstalled ubuntu from scratch using the new beta live cd. When I first tried to open openoffice in gnome it worked fine. I installed the kubuntu desktop, it is the ionly thing I did. Tried opeoffice in kde and it worked fine, but icons disappers again in gnome. When I resize the window they reappear and stay reappered until my mouse moves anywhere over the icon bar. This is in ubuntu 6.06 beta, fresh install. Hence I'm no programmer but the porblem seems to be in kubuntu not ubuntu.

Happend to me too, after installing kubuntu-desktop over ubuntu. The only work-around I found so I can still use OpenOffice under Gnome was to uninstall the packages openoffice.org-gnome and openoffice.org-gtk and have the default OpenOffice look. What I didn't try was to uninstall openoffice.org-kde, maybe this solves the problem (but it will mean to have the default look under KDE).

Well, after a little more testing and looking around other problems reported here, I see this is the gtk2-engines-gtk-qt problem in bug #36256.

Well, I just did the following - in KDE System settings / Appearance / GTK styles and fonts I changed GTK Styles from Use my KDE style in GTK applications to Use another style and selected the style Human instead of Qt. That seems to have done the trick - now Gnome menus are orange again and OO icons and menus are back. If that is something still wrong, I can't see it for now.

I did the same and it now works fine under gnome.
