Bug Description

here are some minor corrections to user guide (version posted on http://doc.ubuntu.com/pdf/ on March 11):

 - copyright dates should be 2004-2006 (not 2005)
 - on pg. 2 (Chapter 1, section "The Difference" replace Mandrake->Mandriva
- in section "Version and Release numbers":
"This version (Dapper Drake), was released in April 2006..." - remove comma

- In "Permissions" section:
"write
files can be edited or deleted
directories can be deleted"

This is simply not true. write permission for directories means ability to add/delete/rename files and subdirectories in this directory, not "delete the directory"

- chapter 4, section "wireless cards": by far the most common problem with wireless cards is that many cards have no linux drivers and can only be used with ndiswrapper. So please include a link to ndiswrapper wiki page, https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WifiDocs/Driver/Ndiswrapper
(there is a link to it deeply inside troubleshooting guide, but it is not easy to find)

More things noticed:

- Chapter 3, Section "Switch to Console mode":
I do not have Dapper yet, but in previous versions to switch from text console to any other, you use "Alt-F*" combination, not Ctrl-Alt-F*

- Chapter 3, section "Rename all files in a directory at once": it suggests downloading a tarball, manually changing permisssions, etc. Gives a really bad impression: if this tool is so important, why isn't it available as a package in one of repos? And if it is not important, why do we mention it at all?

 - Chapter 4: I strongly suggest including these topics from commutiny-maintained guide at http://easylinux.info/wiki/Ubuntu_dapper

 - How to add keyboard layouts for other languages

- How to add the Keyboard (Layout) Indicator applet

- and most important, " How to type extended characters"

The last one is a FAQ in the forums!

This is talking about going from Desktop -> Console and back. I'll make
this clearer.

I don't think it gives a bad impression, it is a useful tool, and isn't
available in the repo.

I'll take a look at these, thanks.

I understand. My point is that to switch from X virtual terminal to text one, you do have to use Ctrl-Alt-F1, but to switch back, you need to use Alt-F7 (no Ctrl here!)

Right, I've addressed each of your comments now and uploaded fixes for most of them. They will hit the dapper archive when the next upload is done.

Thanks for your feedback.

Trying to be consistant for someone who doesnt know how 'this console thing' works is more important then trying to save tehm a keystroke (imo) :)
