Ruby + IMAP + OpenSSL issues

Bug Description

I have implemented IMAP authentication over SSL using Ruby/IMAP. When not using SSL, everything works fine. When SSL is enabled, the exception:

Errno::ECONNRESET

is thrown.

This is not an issue under Mac OS X, in which the connection is successful 100% of the time. I have re-compiled Ruby and OpenSSL from source. The issue still occurs, but now only around 60% of the time.

I have tested this on both my personal development machine as well as two production-quality Ubuntu servers (one x86, one x86_64). Both use 8.04.

As far as I can tell, this is an issue unique to Ubuntu. I plan to test this issue on other flavors of Linux shortly.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue for you. Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

Yes, this is still an issue. Interestingly, it is an issue on SuSE Enterprise as well. Again, OS X machines are unaffected. I have resorted to using Ruby RADIUS on Linux servers as a work-around (which works quite nicely, although the need for a RADIUS secret makes it less ideal than IMAP for development environments).
