Bug Description

I am using Ubuntu Jaunty and when powering off the Laptop (Toshiba satellite A100-1HY) it seems that all is working except powering it off at the end of the shutdown process. I see the progress bar finishing and then only a black screen with a cursor blinking, and nothing happens (So i am forced to shut down it directly pressing the power off button for 10 seconds).
I tried to add some options such as hpet=disable and acpi=off to the kernel but nothing changes.
It was working with the Jaunty alpha 4.

I am also affected by this bug on a Toshiba Satellite A300. My BIOS is Insyde H20, not Phoenix as many Toshibas have. I wonder if that is part of the issue?

Hi Leonardo,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid.

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 347774

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

I am having a very similar problem during shut down in a Panasonic CF-R8 with alpha 2 Maverick 10.10.

During shut down, the final screen appears, under the name Ubuntu two white dots turn into red, and it stays like that forever. I have to stop manually the computer by pressing the power button.

The computer works fine with Ubuntu 10.04.

Hope this report is any useful.
