Bug Description

I often visit http://www.garysdeli.nl/. There is a wireless access point called "blueberry" here, secured with WEP or WPA. I used it before and it worked reliably when my laptop was running 8.10.

I upgraded to 9.04 (the current development release as of today), and now I cannot see the network in network manager. Other people in the cafe can see it on their mac and windows machines, and can successfully connect to it.

steve@blixa:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu jaunty (development branch)
Release: 9.04

I attached the output of this command as "network": sudo lshw -C network

Changed in network-manager (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → Medium

After googling a lot, I think this is something to do with the regulatory domain for 80211, crda, and all that stuff. That is, I think the AP may be running on a channel that is legal in the EU, but not in the default regulatory domain.

I can't figure out how to tell the kernel that my laptop is in the EU, however, to verify this.

They may be using the higher bands. You could try installing the iw package and then using command below to tell the kernle you are in NL:

    iw reg set NL

This is a US laptop that I used in the NL. I wonder if this is the same bug as https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/288401

Hi Steve,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid.

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 347280

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
