ImportError XKit.xutils

This is a fresh install of ubuntu 9.04 on an acer Aspire 5100 laptop. The crash happened both before and after updates. Every time jackey tried to start up.

I doubt it is remotely important but:
Specs:
BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] 802.11g Wireless LAN Controller (detected automatically after updates, not before)
RS482 [Radeon Xpress 200M] vendor: ATI Technologies Inc ( using vesa by default ... this is incorrect from lshw, should be radeon xpress 1100 if the sticker on the laptop is correct)
there is a webcam on this ACER Aspire 5100
