Bug Description

Binary package hint: totem

this is happening in jaunty jackalope, i think this could be because of a bug in compiz, for example when i use firefox and a go fullscreen, then i use zoom plugin in compiz my desktop ginger up for a sec, or when i set totem to fullscreen and i move the mouse, my desktop gingers up too....

if u need more detail, just ask, maybe it is about nvidia driver or compiz, i do not know...
this did not happened in prior alpha releases...

I can confirm this. It happens on both my netbook with Intel graphics and my laptop with Nvidia graphics. When compiz is enabled and Firefox is set to fullscreen, the fullscreen window disappears revealing the desktop background for a brief second when zooming or sometimes when switching between firefox tabs.

Changed in compiz (Ubuntu):

I can also confirm this in Jaunty. It seems to occur only in Gnome/GTK apps, not KDE/QT ones. I've tested this with Firefox, Totem, and Dragon Player.

It occurs in the following situations:

Firefox
switching to or away from a tab with Flash active while in fullscreen mode
    leaving fullscreen

Totem
Viewing media in fullscreen then moving the mouse to view the controls
Leaving fullscreen by either using the keyboard or the mouse.

compiz 1:0.8.2-0ubuntu7
firefox 3.0.8+nobinonly-0ubuntu3
totem 2.26.1-0ubuntu1
dragonplayer 4:4.2.2-0ubuntu2

A workaround for this bug is to to uncheck "Unredirect Fullscreen windows" in CompizConfig Settings Manager -> General Options -> General tab or by running "gconftool-2 --type boolean --set /apps/compiz/general/screen0/options/unredirect_fullscreen_windows False".

For me it happens just only with kernel 2.6.29 from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ . For you?

Deactivating compiz effects is a workaround.

I can also confirm this is happening with jaunty and nvidia drivers with compiz enabled. When i move the mouse while playing fullscreen video in totem or while leaving fullscreen mode in firefox, the wallpaper appears for a split second. Disabling compiz removes this behaviour.

Eric's workaround https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/346986/comments/3 solved the problem for me. Thanks Eric.

I can also confirm the same issue, and that the workaround works for me.

I found an older bug that points to the same issue, and workaround, marking this a duplicate.
