Can you please explain your problem in more detail?

Is OOo already running on one screen when you open the file on another and it shows up there, or does it show up on a screen you are not using, or what?

No OOo app running.
Further tests seems to show that it only happens with spreadsheet (word processor opens fine).

Currently I cant test, 'cause i'm on multi monitor, but with a single display, opening an existing spreadsheet file, would make OOo Calc open on the second Workspace, reproducibly even after reboot.

one more thing, the splash would be seen on the current display, only Calc would then be "transfered" to 2nd display.

BUGabundo,

So let me see if I understand what you are saying.

1. Compiz ON
2. Single physical screen
3. spreadsheet already existing
4. OOo not currently running
5. double click on spreadsheet document, eg on desktop
6. OOo opens with the splash screen on current desktop but with the spreadsheet showing up on another desktop

Is the above right? If so I can't reproduce this on Ubuntu Jaunty 64bit.

Exactly that!
Will try again latter when on single screen.
Either I can, or it was a fluke!
Will post back latter!

I can reproduce this every time.
its at a point thats affecting my work (i keep forgetting that its opened on a new workspace).

If I go to the 2nd workspace and open a file there, then it opens on the 3rd, and so on!

Does moving your ~/.openoffice.org* dir out of the way resolve the problem?

mv both .openoffice.org and .openoffice.org3 seems to make it work as expected!

Then something in your user configuration of openoffice.org is causing the problem. As there are MANY options I do not know which option was changed that caused this problem for you, sorry. :-(
