Jaunty Alpha 6: Search box in Synaptic Package Manager produces no results when application name is typed in. Clicking on the "Search" button likewise results in no found apps.

This has happened to me also, on Jaunty.

This has happened to me through all of the betas, in the release candidate and in the current release.
I can replicate this, and it only happens when the following happens:

- A search is made in the 'add/ remove programs' program that returns no results

- Then either deleting the search term and re-searching or changing the sources.

Whatever you do after this point will yield no results and the only way to restore functionality is to close and reopen the program.

If it is in any way relevant, the distribution that i am running has been upgraded (originally from 8.10) as opposed to being a clean install.

I had the same problem, but apparently 'sudo update-apt-xapian-index ' fixed it.

Confirmed. I had the same problem from a fresh install of Jaunty x64. Updates did not fix the problem.
I followed "Hansip"'s advice ( 'sudo update-apt-xapian-index ' ) and everything seems ok now. :)

PS: note to devel's. The LP site might be fine for you guys, but for us wanting to know the answers, it's very hard to navigate. The only time I made any progress towards the button that should be first up on the "bugs" page, FILE A BUG, (which no where to be seen) was more by mistake, hope and luck, than deliberate. It took me far longer than it should have to end up here.
Otherwise, keep up the good work! :)
