Bug Description

Binary package hint: yelp

Hi,
I installed ubuntu 8.10 on my intel computer e-7050/610i GeoGorce 7050 NForce 610i motherboard.
Everything is working great except for the internet download speed

I have ran speed tests from various sites and here's what I get (http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/)
Download Speed: 725 kbps (90.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 2088 kbps (261 KB/sec transfer rate)

Download speed is painfully slow, but upload speeds are consistently fine.

I have read several forum articles and did what they have asked:
1. Setting the mtu to 1500
2. Disabling ipv6 ( by modifying /etc/modprobe.d/aliases) and also putting this line "alias net-pf-10 off" in the bad_list file.

Here is some more information that may help:

Thanks for reporting this problem. I don't have an answer as I'm pulling over 20MB and pushing almost 4Mb with no special treaks.

Thanks for replying Scott.
Just a note, if anyone who's trying to fix the bug want to debug the problem more on my machine, please let me know.
I can come online on irc and run commands that may help find a solution faster.

Thanks,
Amish.

I think I found the problem. It is with my router belkin router.
I connected directly to the modem and restarted the modem and my machine and speed is much better.

Time to get a new router? Or is there a fix?

Thanks,
Amish.

are you confiming that this is a yelp issue? yelp doesn't have any code to manage your internet connection, it's not a yelp issue at all, the report needs reassignment.

gardenhose, thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. Intrepid reached EOL on April 30, 2010.
See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

Is this an issue in a supported release? If so, could you please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:
apport-collect 346354
