Bug Description

Binary package hint: brasero

In Ubuntu 8.10, my "CD/DVD Creator folder" has two "Write to Disc" buttons, as in the attached screenshot. (I assume this is because of bug 317756.) The top "Write to Disc" button, which I assume runs brasero, always fails to burn a disc; a dialog always displays the error message "Error while burning: the file is not stored locally". The bottom "Write to Disc" button, which I assume runs nautilus-cd-burner, works fine.

I can confirm this. Only that the order of buttons is reversed for me (the one with the disc icon is Brasero, which appears below the n-c-b one).

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Also, please answer these questions:
* Is this reproducible?
* If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?
* May you attach your ~/.xsession-errors file to the report?
This will greatly aid us in tracking down your problem and resolving this bug.

I have the same issue. My .xsession-errors was rather large, so I thought I would clear it out and reproduce the issue to get only the relevant logs. Unfortunately, after clearing the file, nothing new is added to it when I reproduce the issue. Note that I can reproduce the issue whether I attempt to write to a disc or an iso image.

The error dialog does, however, have a log pane. Here's the output:

--- BEGIN LOG ---
Checking session consistency (brasero_burn_check_session_consistency burn.c:1956)
BraseroGenisoimage called brasero_job_get_action
BraseroGenisoimage getting varg
BraseroGenisoimage called brasero_job_get_action
BraseroGenisoimage called brasero_job_get_current_track
BraseroGenisoimage called brasero_job_get_tmp_dir
BraseroGenisoimage got varg:
 /usr/bin/genisoimage
 -input-charset
 utf8
 -r
 -graft-points
BraseroGenisoimage stopping
Session error : The file is not stored locally (brasero_burn_record burn.c:2650)
--- END LOG ---
Looks, to me as if the intermediate iso image is not being generated... There are a bunch of /tmp/brasero_tmp_* dirs (probably one for each attempt I made), with nothing in them. I assume there should be something in them...

I'm changing this to Confirmed, as the bug is reproducible by multiple people always.

Uninstalling Brasero has been a good workaround for me; nautilus-cd-burner works fine.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release the Karmic Koala. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your help.
