Bug Description

On my machine, in a maximized firefox window, if your mouse is near the right edge of the screen and on the bottom half of the screen, and you right click and release, it will automatically switch page direction. At first this alarmed me, but then I realized with my mouse at that location(bottom right), the menu was popping up with the pointer ontop of "switch page direction" and when releasing the right mouse button it was clicking it? Using latest firefox 1.5 from repo's, dapper drake flight5.

this bug appears on the ubuntu firefox builds & the mozilla firefox builds (2.0 & nightly trunk).
tho it's not always switch page direction. it depends on what the bottom item in the menu is.

Confirmed in Firefox 2.0.0.3 in Ubuntu 7.04. The bug is absent in Firefox when running under Windows 2000.

NOTICE for people attempting to REPLICATE:
Doesn't replicate under some gnome themes. try the ubuntu default which is human for replication.
Does replicate under Mozilla 2. Also Mozilla 3 Nightly. Same Applies to Ubuntu Feisty's Current version & Gnomefreaks Trunk Build.

imo we cannot deal with this .... and definitly not in firefox. Every application using popups should be affected.

bug does not happen in epiphany-browser, nor evolution mail.

Confirmed for Epiphany web browser. This bug is also absent in Nautilus, Gedit, GIMP, Terminal, and OpenOffice.org Writer. As far as I can tell, this is specific to Firefox (and Thunderbird).

But since this bug can only be replicated under 2 of the 8 default Ubuntu themes (namely Human and Glossy), this is probably a theme issue and should be reassigned or refiled to that category.

well this needs to marked as affecting something somewhere... cause letting !@#$ like this fly under the radar is why windows & osx are superior products.

This happens still with Hardy default installation and Firefox-3 and with the default theme...

Besides switching page direction, does the right click activate any other options like opening the link in a new tab/windows? If so, it is likely to be related to bug 187313

As a small improvement (less surprise for inexperienced users), one can disable bidirectional text:

1) Type "about:config" into the address bar.
2) In the "Filter:" text box, type "bidi"
3) The "bidi.browser.ui" entry was set to "true" in the "value" column. To change it to "false", right-click on this entry and select "Toggle".
4) Restart Firefox.

After doing all this, the "Switch page direction" context-menu entry has disappeared.

(Copied from http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=619481)

Now the last menu entry is "Page Info" or "Properties", whose windows can be closed by pressing Escape.
