Some texts on the menu not translated, even though translated in Rosetta

Bug Description

The menu now works in various languages, thanks. However, some of the most visible strings are not translated for some reason in the CD menu. These include:

"Try Ubuntu without installing! Simply reboot..."
"Install inside Windows"
"Reboot required"
"Please select the appropriate accessibility profile"
"You are about to install Ubuntu 9.04"

For example the "Install inside Windows" was translated on the same date (2009-03-11) than the other menu item that is seen translated, so it should not be (just) about not having updated translations imported to wubi, though maybe the latest translation import was done earlier and included an earlier version of the string that I'm comparing to. Using LANG=fi_FI.UTF-8 wine wubi.exe. Indeed if using LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8, different strings are untranslated and translated.

Attaching screenshots.

In case this is just about the translations not being updated, and it's not NonLanguagePackTranslationDeadline yet, let this bug just remind about doing the last update on that deadline. Before that, however, it is good to make certain there are no lingering bugs preventing the translations from working. Also it would be a service to translators to do a couple of updates because it's not just a matter of compiling PO -> MO to test translations in case of wubi.

One more note: I don't think there has been a call for translations on the ubuntu-translators mailing list yet, so not many translators have probably found the wubi at all. It might be worth putting a notice there, especially as wubi project translations are not part of the other Ubuntu translations.

I haven't imported the translations yet, please check the po directory in the latest source tree

Somehow even though eg. I translated "Install inside Windows" on 2009-03-11, and the translations in the source tree were exported on 2009-03-14, for example that translation is marked as fuzzy.

Are you sure the .pot at Rosetta is up-to-date?

Anyway, if you do another export from Rosetta (I hope you have the button "download all translations" or something like that available!), you should be able to check if eg. fi.po is fully translated after running intltool / update-po, since it is 100% translated in Rosetta. If some fuzzies appear, then there is something wrong with the template in Rosetta.

Or is the problem because of some kind of mix of umenu and wubi translations? Umenu is AFAIK deprecated and all the strings it had are now available in the wubi template. Is the case that when the translation is available in both, it is marked as fuzzy? I think whatever umenu translations are in use, they should be gotten ridden of since the strings are all in wubi.

Timo on the fuzzy issue above, I think this is due because I did a bulk "merge" of translations between umenu and wubi around that time.

Looks fairly good on the source level at least. There was this one changed string that is now available for translation, but other than that minor detail all translations look good and no fuzzies are anymore seen. Most probably it would also work fluently in an executable form.

Yep there was a typo in one string fixed in #355923, and I will also have to fix another typo (#355928) tonight/tomorrow

I'm seeing a missing (pt_BR) translation on WUBI's "home screen" (Install and uninstall Ubuntu...) on the 9.10 RC. Should I open another bug? Is it still time for making into 9.10 ?

Please open a new bug report, unfortunately it is no longer possible to update translations in the 9.10 CD. I will make new translations available in the stand-alone version on wubi-installer.org.

Was there a string freeze exception for wubi btw or something? I don't see the updated translation templates anywhere, although I have checked the wubi project at Launchpad from time to time. Too bad that the whole Ubuntu release's Win installer part is now broken translation wise.

Er, a correction. I don't see new strings in the installer itself either, now that I found I had one karmic ISO available. Also the pt_BR translation for the missing string has been there since March. So apparently the translations aren't broken for all languages / every case, but instead there is some pt_BR specific (?) problem - something that should have affected 9.04 as well apparently.
