nvidia 9400GT XServer crashes 180 or 173 glx

[HaDeS]

Using default support for Nvidia 9400GT works fine at resolution but no refresh rate displayed or selectable. Upon installing 180 or 173 glx the Xserver crashes and will not run again. nvidia-xconfig did not solve this issue. Everything i try now will not allow me to run x.
