Bug Description

hardy heron 8.04
i use the synaptic package manager and in the section Base system i mark for upgrade almost everything that was unmarked and the name was beggining from l (L) including some linux-ububntu-modules, linux-headers-lbm, linux-backports-modules and lilo. after installing lilo and there was a message like: after installing you must run liloconfig and then /sbin/lilo otherwise you could not boot (or the same with ldconfig - i am not sure because i had to left for a while and when i came back i forgot to do that job). so after a couple of days i try to boot and there was a problem and i couldn't reach to that brown-orange screen that asking for username and password. i turn off my laptop by push for some seconds the power button and i try the recovery mode and i did it but there was no internet connection and no sound.
after trying to boot many times while i was searching in internet for tips (from another laptop) finally i manage to boot -after about 15 minutes- and to give username and password but the problem with the internet and sound was still there.
i did sudo dpkg-reconfigure lilo but nothing happens and then i reinstalled lilo from synaptic package manager (i've noticed that all the times that i was trying to boot the system was using Grub loader, if that is important) and i restart the system. system boot with no problem and there was not any problem with the internet connection.
but it is still there the problem with the sound. if i go to the panel the icon is like the sound is in mute, the roller for the volume is not working and if i try to open volume control appears the msg : No volume control GStreamer plugins and/or devices found.
if i go to system->sound in the tab of devices when choosing autodetect or alsa or oss or pulse (sound events)and then test there is a msg :audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink: Failed to connect stream: Invalid argument
when i choose autodetect or ALSA or eeverything else in music and video and then test i get the msg: audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink profile=music: Could not open audio device for playback.
what should i do?
i try to send this text and i saw that you were fixing the feng sui over there, so i retry after 2 days.
i couldn't boot and finally i boot in recovery mode after 5 minutes (real time) and i have internet but no sound device
msg: The volume control did not find any elements and/or devices to control. This means either that you don't have the right GStreamer plugins installed, or that you don't have a sound card configured.

You can remove the volume control from the panel by right-clicking the speaker icon on the panel and selecting "Remove From Panel" from the menu.
but i am using gstremer 0.10
so what should i do?
