Bug Description

The OO.org's UI font can't be rendered using FT2 TTF bytecode interpreter, even if the native hinter was selected in 'dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig'. OO.org always uses built-in FT2 autohinter.

Similar bugzilla entry for Breezy:

Quoting the bug above:
add the line
export LD_PRELOAD=/usr/local/lib/libfreetype.so.6
in the beginning of /usr/lib/openoffice2/program/soffice

I will try and see if it works for Dapper

So my issue is quite the opposite to http://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=16704
I can't get the bytecode interpreter to work no matter what values the SAL_*_PRIORITY variables are set to. I don't recall this issue in Breezy.

I think the issue is even worse.. Not only oo.o can't render fonts using bytecode interpreter, but looks like it can't do any hinting at all. Here's the screenshot:

and my /etc/fonts/local.conf

Ok, more on this.
This bug seems to affect only OpenOffice 2.0.2. Bytecode interpreted fonts worked correctly in 2.0.1 and it's very likely an upstream bug.

Please, do something about it, it makes OOo barely usable with bytecode interpreter enabled :(

Does it work for you on Ubuntu 7.10? I'm not sure if I enabled autohinting properly on my system. It appears to be antialiased but I can't tell if it is doing what you want or not.

Thanks,
Chris
