Bug Description

I own a Clevo M860TU with a nVidia 9800 GT and I get no /proc/acpi/video (empty directory) in Intrepid. As a result my display cannot respond to state changes nor brightness hotkeys, this is particularly upsettings since I can't get any console terminals (outside X).

Updated to karmic yesterday. Still the same behaviour. Is this a bug within Ubuntu or is the BIOS messing around??

I'm guessing this is either a BIOS/dsdt bug or lack of support for this barebone within the linux kernel itself.

Eitherway, it's a really annoying bug... when the laptop battery goes under a certain percentage my lcd brightness dims (as it's supposed to) but in order to restore the brightness (after having the laptop plugged in) I _MUST_ boot up windows. Linux is not able to restore the brightness on it's own. Also, if X crashes I can't access any maintenance console terminals, so the only solution is a reboot.

But as you can see, nobody is paying attention to this, it's the first reply in almost 6 mounths. Anyways, glad to know I'm not alone on this one :)

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a bug in the kernel (linux).

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the appropriate application's "Help -> Report a Problem" menu or using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.
