toggle on left mouse click

Bug Description

It would be nice if left clicking on tray icon would toggle show all/close all pads

can this be implemented?

Possibly... It used to work like this, but I changed it due to GNOME HIG recommendations for status icons. We ignore other recommendations they make in that regard, it's possible we can go back to ignoring that one...

Bug 304331 is very similar and may be another way to achieve the same result.

+1 one for toggle. IMO the left mouse click should always be the default action, which IMO is toggle. I also like the mockup from bug 304331.

I implemented left click on tray icon configuration in https://code.launchpad.net/~sachinr/xpad/xpad-tray-config branch.
Left click configuration can be set to "Toggle show all" in preferences to achieve the desired behaviour.
