Bug Description

I have installed Kubuntu on a lot of different desktops and a couple laptops(started with 6.something). I would like to think I have the process down, however I must not. I just did a fresh install yesterday, March 17th 08, on a new computer. Duel partitioned the 320 gb hdd 100 gb windoze vista extreme edition 200 some odd gb to Kubuntu 8.10. I always run the live cd to make sure the base system will work and there will be no major hick-ups. Now in order for me not get a black screen after the kubuntu loading screen I have to press F6 two times and set it to load with only free software, press Esc and then run the live cd if everything is working I then start the install. I have never had to do this before, now using "other options" to do and install on to a computer with older BIOS. Now I can run the live cd and test the Ethernet connection. That worked so i did the install resolution was ok everything looked good. While running the updates, a "bubble popped up saying my computer has hardware that needs restricted drivers to run better" so after the updates have finished I click the restricted driver manager so I can download and install the nvidia drivers I need. It failed. So I try to go about nd download and install the drivers with envyng qt. I receive and error message

" Traceback (most recent call last):
File "interface.py", line 432, in <modole> a.mainMenu()

File "interface.py", line 245, in mainmenu a.driverMenu('nvidia')

File "interface.py", line 216 in driverpage canidateLen.append (len(details['canidate']))

TypeError: object of type 'NoneType" has no len() "

The issue I am facing is I have no sound nor a graphics card drivers. On an other install of an identical computer, I used the envyng qt with no issues sounds and graphics worked great. Well sound was good as long as music or something was playing if there was no music or movie playing I had a static/popping noise in my speakers. simple enough to turn them off when not in use. Also, probably unrelated, Konversation will not log on.
