Bug Description

When i try to use my USB flash drive for storing a big file (a 700 mb movie file, for instance) the data transfer rate TO the removable device starts with 3.1 MB/s and then keeps reducing until it reaches .6 MB/s, and remains constant thereafter. The FROM USB flash drive rate is fine. I know that my hardware is good because when i try to do the same thing using Windows Vista on the same machine, the data transfer rate is about 5 MBps throughtout the process.

Details of my Machine are:
Vendor - HP
Motherboard - Intel Pentium 4 HT 3.06 GHz 32 bit
RAM - 512 mb
USB flash drives - tried using moserbaer and transcend

However, this problem doesn't occur on my Sony Vaio laptop.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.

The issue of transfer speeds starting high and slowing down is actually normal, especially with flash drives. If you are not satisfied with the average write speed, though, you can do more detailed tests from <https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DiskPerformance> and report your results here. Thanks for your help!
