Bug Description

Binary package hint: kwin

I'm running kubuntu 8.10 on a lenovo x61t. When kde desktop effects are turned on opengl graphics appear scrambled. One program I tried running was neverball but a few other programs had the same problem. Objects would appear in the program but they would not have the correct images on them. for example the coins in neverball were missing their faces and instead had a brown spot on them, and the ball and background images would randomly disappear. This all happened on a fresh kubuntu install after installing all updates.

Most likely a bug with the intel driver. It would be nice if you could test with a Kubuntu 9.04 LiveCD.

I tried it on Kubuntu 9.04. Graphics are still a little off sometimes but the opengl problem seems to be fixed.

Hi kjgillis,

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log (and maybe Xorg.0.log.old) file from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

I switched to ubuntu jaunty from kubuntu so I don't know how useful the logfiles will be anymore.

Unlinked http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1097924, all of the relevant information is already in this report.

Keith, can you download a jaunty livecd and report back whether you get the same corruption, and any other notable differences?

Sounds like a bug in mesa texture handling. Can you attach a photo or screenshot that shows the corruption?

Hi Keith,

When you run the atunnel screensaver (from the xscreensaver-gl package), does it accidently omit certain textures and paint them black instead like shown in this screenshot? http://launchpadlibrarian.net/22740600/atunnel_intrepid_2.png

If so, you might be suffering from bug #330476:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/330476

In this case you should be able to use this patch which targets intrepid mesa:

I downloaded the jaunty live cd. Neverball seems to work fine now but the atunnel screensaver has has trouble sort of like what I saw in neverball - weird texture problems. I'll attach a few screenshots and my xorg.log. The problem doesn't seem to be the mesa problem Martin referred to.

Hi Keith,

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? (ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/)

If it remains an issue, could you also attach a new /var/log/Xorg.0.log?
        Thanks in advance.

We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we may be able to pass upstream for help.
