I just had a complete freeze while running the system update. After a cold restart, Synaptic reported a problem. After running sudo dpkg --configure -a Apport came up with this message.

It seems that due to the crash some files in /usr/share/gconf/schemes are now 0 byte, eg. /usr/share/gconf/schemas/gnome-terminal.schemas
Is there a way to reset these schemes to default? Ithink this could probably solve the problem.

It is not a bug in gnome-terminal. Just the problem with ext4 and system freeze, where the files end up empty. What caused the crash is still open though.
