Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

Testing Jaunty Alpha-6 Desktop CD and installing to a dmraid mirror setup.

In the partition list the partitions on the raid device /dev/mapper/blabla as well as the two raw devices /dev/sda and /dev/sdb appear. I then select a partition on the raid device for use as root partition and do not touch any other partition.

However, when the summary appears, it says that the swap partitions on the raw devices are also going to be reformatted, in addition to the swap partition on the raid device (see screenshot). I do not want it to touch the raw device partitions.

If I mark the raw device swap partitions as "do not use partition", the label changes from "swap" to "linux-swap" and the summary afterwards says it the partition tables of /dev/sda and /dev/sdb are changed, so I suspect it will rewrite the partition tables on these devices. I do not want it to touch the raw devices at all.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04
Package: ubiquity 1.11.16
ProcEnviron:
 SHELL=/bin/bash
 LANG=en_US.UTF-8
SourcePackage: ubiquity
Uname: Linux 2.6.28-9-generic i686

The same happens with software raid in 10.04 (amd64)

If an md device is formatted as swap the live system starts using the components as swap instead of the md device.
Perhaps because mdadm is not installed by default? I don't know if mdadm is just a tool or if it's necessary for handling the softraids.
This also hinders the assembly of the raid device. One has to swapoff the components first.

The installer marks the components as swap even if it sees the md device itself.
Unmarking them DOES change the partitions' id from raid autodetect (FD) to linux-swap (82).

While the system was installing I reverted them to raid auto using fdisk without any obvious errors.
(The new system did not start, but for a different reason.)

Even if I swap the components off and assemble the raid, the installer wants to format the components as well as the md device.

However, if I start the live system with empty hdds and create the raid devices using the disk utility, the installer properly recognises the situation.

Are you still seeing this on 12.04 or 13.10?
